Musical Performance

November 14, 2019 Jack Gross After many, many, many rehearsals our school's musical performance finally took place. My role had been changed to be a Co-Director, which doesn't sound like a big difference from Assistant Director, but there previously had been one Director and one Assistant Director and over time throughout the rehearsal process it changed to there being two Co-Directors with the same job which was a massive step up and got me far more invested in the show. Due to this during the show I was incredibly stressed, every time the actors made a joke I was terrified that the audience wouldn't laugh. However, because of the time and effort that we had put into the musical and the skill of the actors most of the jokes landed well. There were very few hangups in the first show and every mistake that was made was able to be saved by another actor coming up with something on the spot to recover it. In this project I believe that I fulfilled Learning Outcome 5 "...

Musical Rehearsals

October 23, 2019 Jack Gross Throughout this year I have been working on my school's production of [Title of Show] as the Assistant Director. The process of trying to create a good piece of theatre with a bunch of high school students is... difficult. However all the challenges that I have faced have helped me improve in my understanding of theatre and how it is produced. I have worked with the director in coming up with each action that the actors are dong and refining them to clearly and distinctly communicate our intentions, it has been a great learning experience.  Along with putting lots of effort into this production I have already given up hours and hours of my free time to help us and we still have a long way to go. While I am intimidated by the prospect of a continued lack of time to work on other areas I am committed to making this show the best that I can. I believe that in doing this I have demonstrated Learning Outcome 4 as I have committed to making this productio...

Musical read

October 3, 2019 Jack Gross Class of 2021 This year, I opted to take part in my school’s musical { Title of Show} (A musical about two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical. However as things are I am not comfortable singing in front of an audience (I hope to improve in that during this process). I still wanted to help my school produce a good musical so I took up the role of Assistant Director. Even though we only started rehearsals very recently, it has already been a wonderful learning experience for me. On September 11th we (the cast and I) got  together for a read through of the script and pointed out areas that we knew would need more work than others. During that time we all were able to gain a basic understanding of the musical beyond just the songs. When we went through, I marked the areas that we did well in and where we would need more growth. I also learned a bunch about directing and where I personally would need to improve. Durin...

J-Term Planning

Jack Gross Class of 2021 Throughout this week I have been proposing a plan for a personal J-Term in an area that I am interested in. I have always been interested in being a teacher and I think that I would do very well in that position, in order to gain experience in this area, I am proposing that I spend 2 weeks in January as an assistant teacher at the Post Oak School. I will try to become an assistant teacher to help out with Math and/or Science with grades 4-6. During this time I will not only be teaching the students, I hope to be teaching myself too. I want to understand early Montessori Education better as I am still semi-new to this type of schooling. Throughout this process I have demonstrated learning outcome 3 as I have, on my own accord come up with a personal plan to go out advance my own knowledge in the field of teaching at a school, not just in a textbook.
